FOIL — First, Outer, Inner, Last — is the standard shortcut for multiplying two binomials without missing a term. This tool computes each of the four products individually, then combines the like "outer" and "inner" terms into the final trinomial.

How it works

For (a₁x+b₁)(a₂x+b₂): First multiplies the two leading terms (a₁x×a₂x), Outer multiplies the outermost terms (a₁x×b₂), Inner multiplies the innermost terms (b₁×a₂x), and Last multiplies the two constants (b₁×b₂). The Outer and Inner products are then added since they're both x-terms.
