Isopsephy is the ancient Greek practice of summing the numeric value of each letter in a word or phrase — the Greek equivalent of Hebrew gematria. This tool computes the standard isopsephy value of any Greek text using the full 27-symbol ancient Greek numeral system.

How it works

The 24 letters of the modern Greek alphabet carry fixed numeric values (Alpha=1 ... Iota=10 ... Rho=100 ... Omega=800), and the 3 archaic numeral-only letters fill the remaining gaps: digamma/stigma=6, qoppa=90, and sampi=900. Both uppercase and lowercase letters (and final sigma "ς") are recognized, and every recognized letter's value is summed.
