Glycemic Load (GL) combines a food's glycemic index (GI) with the actual amount of carbohydrate in a serving, giving a more complete picture than GI alone of a food's likely effect on blood sugar. GL = (GI x carbohydrate grams per serving) / 100. This calculator is for general reference and educational purposes only, not medical or dietary advice — consult a doctor or registered dietitian for an actual meal plan.

How it works

Enter the glycemic index of the food (a food-specific value you look up separately — no food database is built into this tool) and the grams of carbohydrate in the serving. The tool applies the GL formula and classifies the result as low, medium, or high.
